PENICHE! some tow-in and tow-at!

Some of my friends had looked at the weather charts during the WCT in Portugal and they said it was going to be big, around 5 to 6 meter waves the next day. In the morning we packed the car and headed up to Peniche where we met a good friend of mine Joao Dorao. The waves where not as big we thought it would be. Some waves were around 3.5 m face, that was about it. However, we though some practice could not hurt, so we went for it. During the seesion it ended up with people coming to look, first around 20, then 60 or 70 people, but in the end it was around 150 to 200 spectators standing on the rock watching.

One more week until i graduate from Oporto british school, and will finally be able to only think about surfing, no more school. This summer is going to be epic, the plans are that I am going to be spending my time in Ericeira, Portugal at lapoint to train and work, plus entering the majority of the ASP european junior. circuito regional de espinho 2010 17/18 april.

The contest started off with ok to good conditions, with nearly no wind, with some nice right handers breaking of the water jetty. I was in the first heat of the open of the day, and the conditions looked promising. As the heat starts we all took a couple of waves, but for me the board felt a bit strange and i looked under it, the boards was broken in the tail, my reaction was to paddle quickly in and change board as i did that the heat was practically over, however i ended up winning the heat with an ok score of 13 something. As the day continued they ran all the bodyboard heat and there was no more surfing that day, because the high-tide came and it went flat.

The second day of contest was the same, with good conditions and right handers, but this time instead of breaking my backup board a managed to get my new and really good ripcurl wetsuit stolen and long with that other people lost theirs as well. However the day was coming to and end and I have surfed a couple of heats, it was time for the mens open final, were there were two Portuguese surfers, one Brazilian and a swede. the conditions were rubbish nearly no waves, because of the high-tide if you got a wave you were lucky! But not to complain I ended up 3rd overall.
